ENYOBENI MASS FUNERAL: UNDERAGE DRINKING IS RUINING OUR FUTURE – RAMAPHOSA
President Cyril Ramaphosa, said he is heartbroken that 21 teenage lives were lost at Enyobeni Tarven in Scenery Park, on Wednesday, 06 July 2022, during a mass funeral at the location.
President Ramaphosa gave his eulogy at the funeral service of the young teenagers who passed away at the Enyobeni Tavern in East London on Wednesday.
President Cyril Ramaphosa said: “We have lost our children here. There are parents who will not get to hug or kiss their son or daughter again. We are losing our future generation to the scourge of underage drinking. Alcohol is highly addictive. It is something to be consumed in moderation and responsibly, and only by those who are of the legal age to do so and mature enough to handle its effects.”
Also speaking at the funeral service, Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane said that due to the unfortunate deaths of the teenagers, South Africa and the rest of the globe were also in grief.
Two families, who were among the 21 deceased, did not attend the burial since they had already buried their loved ones.
The send-off, according to Mabuyane, was all about saying goodbye to the young lives that were lost.
“The tragedy that occurred here, where we lost 21 young lives, who are sleeping peacefully in their coffins before us. [We need to support the families] during this difficult time as they go through the pain of laying to rest the mortal remains of their children.”
Investigations into what happened last Sunday are still ongoing.
A doctor who spoke to the mourners during the funeral said that a stampede had been ruled out as the reason for the deaths.
Dr. Mathiyane explained: “We need to base our findings on the evidence that has been collected from those results. It is for that reason Mr president and community members from Scenery Park that we kindly ask that people wait for the results because this investigation is very sensitive and we should treat it as such.”

JOE BIDEN PREDICTS STATES WILL TRY TO ARREST WOMEN WHO WILL TRAVEL FOR ABORTIONS
United States of America’s President, Joe Biden, has predicted that some U.S states will try and arrest women who will cross state lines to try and get abortions after the Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to the procedures nationwide.
13 Republican-led states have banned the procedure under the so called “trigger laws” after the court struck down the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling last week. Women in those states seeking an abortion may have to travel to states where it still is legal to have an abortion.
