Gqeberha, 30 May 2023 – The South African Police Service (SAPS) Humewood detectives are intensifying their efforts to apprehend three suspects who unleashed a wave of criminal activities after robbing a security official on Western Road last night, 29 May. The authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation.
According to reports, the incident unfolded around 20:30 when the suspects allegedly targeted an individual on Western Road. Upon spotting a nearby security vehicle, the victim sprinted towards it in search of help. Sensing their plan foiled, the assailants swiftly shifted their attention to the security official. Brutally assaulted, the official fell victim to the theft of his 9mm service pistol. The incident has resulted in the opening of a case for investigation, charging the suspects with robbery and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Embarking on a spree of violence, the culprits proceeded to Belmont Terrace at approximately 20:45. There, they confronted two students leaving their flat, forcefully coercing them back inside. The victims were subsequently relieved of five cell phones and two laptops. Adding to the gravity of the situation, one of the students fell victim to an assault, suffering a blow to the head with a firearm. A case of house robbery has been registered with the authorities.
The saga of terror continued at around 22:30 when the suspects arrived at a dilapidated building on St Patrick Street in the central area. Inside, they confronted two individuals, demanding money owed to them. In an act of sheer brutality, one of the suspects, without mercy, shot a 29-year-old man in the buttocks. The injured victim was promptly transported to a nearby hospital. The SAPS has initiated an investigation into the incident, treating it as an attempted murder.
Driven by their sinister adrenaline, the suspects subsequently arrived on Albany Road at approximately 22:40. Sending an unsuspecting individual to purchase a bottle of beer, they callously executed a random act of violence. Allegedly, one of the culprits aimlessly fired a shot, fatally striking an unknown person on the street. The police have since launched a murder investigation.
