THE ESSENCE OF PROPHETIC SOURCE

Divination and psychic abilities are just a counterfeit of the Holy Spirit gifts of prophecy and words of knowledge. These things can often look the same, sound the same, and even produce the same information. The source however, will either be holy or unholy, there is no inbetween.

This is why we are told in 1 John chapter 4 to test the spirits and not just automatically receive and believe. Notice, we aren’t told to test the authenticity of the person by the information given, but by the spirit behind it! Familiar spirits, spirit guides, and spirits of divination can produce results that mimick the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Remember, Paul and Silas cast out a demon from a slave girl who was speaking accurate words but was operating through a spirit of divination. Right information, wrong spirit!

The fascination with the supernatural can be dangerous when discernment is lacking, especially in the church. There are witches and warlocks who masquerade as prophets and intercessors. Agents of Satan have infiltrated the church and have been given divine titles and opportunities based on the accuracy of their words when they should have been rebuked for the source of their power.

In the book of Revelation, Jesus addresses the church of Thyatira because they have allowed Jezebelic leadership to lead people astray. Jezebel was a witch but called herself a prophetess. The same pitfalls of spiritual manipulation happen today for those who lack discernment and value the spiritual gifts above character. Just because it sounds good doesn’t mean it’s God. Just because it sounds right doesn’t mean it’s righteous.

Be careful who you follow. Not everyone who claims the name of the Lord and performs miracles will enter the Kingdom of God. Test the spirits, judge the fruit, and beware of wolves in sheeps clothing!
